You may start a day full of wonderful cross-country skiing experiences directly from our farm Formsunhof. Through snow-covered fairytale forests, over seemingly endless snow-covered alpine meadows and under the warming mountain sun of South Tyrol. The Alpe di Siusi spreads over 52 km² – therefore, there are certainly enough trails for at least three fantastic winter holidays in Castelrotto / Alpe di Siusi.

The Alpe di Siusi also offers plenty of space to explore the picturesque winter landscape with snowshoes. The fabulous toboggan runs guarantee great family fun in sparkling white snow. If you wish to ice skate on the many frozen lakes, e.g. on the beautiful Lake of Fié, you will find plenty of opportunities to do so during a winter holiday on our family farm. Snowshoeing and winter hiking

Immerse yourself in the silence of the pristine winter landscape of the Alpe di Siusi and the majestic Dolomites! Even if you come to the Alpe di Siusi especially for a skiing holiday, you should definitely treat yourself to a tour on snowshoes and use the well-developed network of our winter hiking trails! Crown your winter holiday in the Dolomites, for example, with a tour to one of the many alpine huts that offer you a magnificent view of the summit as well as hearty delicacies – the perfect feel-good programme for active mountain lovers. The alpine huts Almrosenhütte, Zallinger Hütte, Laurin or Sanon Hütte are always great destinations for an unforgettable winter hike. When you put on your snowshoes, you are more independent and may also embark on more challenging tours. A 12.5 km long trail leads through the Tschamin Valley, which is particularly graceful in terms of landscape. A bit longer and also more strenuous is the very attractive tour below Mount Catinaccio (901 m). On the way through the Bärenfalle (Bear Trap) you even overcome 1,223 of elevation difference – practice and fitness are indispensable here. If you are on snowshoes for the first time or generally prefer to be guided by experienced alpinists, you will find is a full selection of guided tours of different difficult levels.

Decide to spend your winter holiday in the Dolomites during the Advent season, and you will experience the magic of Christmas in a particularly festive ambiance. At the foot of Mount Sciliar, ancient South Tyrolean Christmas traditions are as alive as ever. The intimate connection with our region, ancient customs, seductively aromatic culinary specialties, and musical traditions come together on the historic village square of Castelrotto to create a Christmas market with a magical flair. Wander through the winding streets with your family, enjoy the famous Castelrotto doughnuts together with a cup of mulled wine, Christmas Stollen and other delicacies, stop by the artisan stalls and enjoy the festive music. You may even combine your skiing holiday in Castelrotto at Christmas time with a romantic carriage ride or take in the sight of the mysteriously quiet winter landscape from the 82 m baroque church tower in the centre of the village. And if you wish to delve even deeper into the South Tyrolean Christmas experience, then why not visit the Christmas Market on the Cathedral Square in the nearby episcopal city of Bressanone, which is one of the most beautiful in the entire alpine region.

at our winter events
Winter holidays in the Dolomites are also a time for a whole variety of events for which the village of Castelrotto is famous. At the beginning of December, our Krampus Parade takes place, a wild experience, and a great show. Later in the month, the local folk music group Kastelruther Spatzen invite you to their Christmas Concert. In the new year, we then celebrate the absolutely fabulous Castelrotto Peasant Wedding, which will take you back to the 19th century. The splendid traditional costume and history festival lives from the participation of the locals and, of course, from the lively encouragement of our visitors, who do not want to miss the unique spectacle. If you plan your skiing holiday in Castelrotto and on the Alpe di Siusi for the end of January, then you may experience the Moonlight Classic cross-country race, which is held by torchlight along the circular trail with start and finish in Compatsch. Afterwards we celebrate until late into the night with folk music and South Tyrolean food. Another highlight is the festival Swing on Snow with music on the ski slopes and in the alpine huts of the Alpe di Siusi as well as in the villages at the foot of Mount Sciliar.
